Un Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 du 44bis Gruppo BT (6a Squadriglia BT) mène une attaque sur Aden vers 7 h 55. Le Flying Officer Gordon S.K. Haywood (L9047) du No.94 (RAF) Squadron décolle en alerte et réussit à fortement endommager le bombardier italien Le Bristol Blenheim L8384 (Squadron Leader Alan McD. Bowman) du No.39 (RAF) Squadron est alors envoyé en patrouille dans le secteur Berbera – Zeilah à la recherche de l’appareil italien, mais le Sottotenente Italo Gherardini réussit à rentrer à sa base avec deux membres d’équipage tués.[1]
Le No.45 (RAF) Squadron fait décoller trois Bristol Blenheim, à 16 h 30, pour attaquer l’aérodrome de Dekemhare. Après la perte de son commandement, le 2 octobre, l’unité joue encore de malchance. En effet, l’un des appareils est contraint à faire demi-tour en raison d’un problème moteur, tandis que les deux autres, L8463 (Flying Officer Gordon C.B. Woodroffe [2] ; Sergeant Eric B. Ryles [3] ; Sergeant Albert A. Meadow [4]) et L8502 (Pilot Officer George A. Cockayne [5] ; Sergeant Trevor A. Ferris [6] ; Sergeant Robert W. Reader [7]) tombent sur des Fiat CR.42 de la 412a Squadriglia CT. Les deux appareils s’écrasent aux environs de Sagheneyti, entraînant les équipages dans la mort, victime du Capitano Mario Visintini.[8]
